The Rapa Nui old ceremonial writing, the Rongo Rongo,
has no translators and interpreters capable of rescuing
the deep and poetic meanings of the existing twenty
four wooden tablets: the Kohahu Rongo Rongo.
The purpose of these texts was to record esoteric ceremonial
formulas, songs for the celebrations, lists of ancestors,
wars and several rituals.
The last interpreters of the old Rapa Nui writing were
kidnapped and sold as slaves in Peru between the years
1862 and 1863: thus, the chance of learning about the
meaning of the tablets was lost.
And important contribution was done by Meteoro (1893)
y Totemenika (1914), two islanders who literally translated
the texts, but the poetic and metaphoric meaning is
no longer possible to understand.
