Aymara is spoken all across the north of Chile, but
modern Aymara people have to express themselves in Spanish
in order to become integrated.
As with other indigenous people, the Aymara people are
bilingual. In general they use Spanish when dealing
with global society and Aymara in their communal activities.
This language belongs to the Jaqi linguistic family,
which is the second most spoken language, after Quechua,
in the Andean area. Its territorial center is located
in the area surrounding Titicaca Lake. Around 3 million
Peruvians and Bolivians speak it, to which we must add
other groups located in Argentina and Chile.
Aymara is characterized by the simplicity of its vowels.
It has only 3 units: i, a, u. It is also known, by its
system of 26 consonants, which give it a special richness
and complexity. For example, parlakipasipxañanakasakipunikakispawa,
is a complete communicative unit equivalent to a complex
Spanish sentence. It means: I know that is desirable
and necessary for us all to communicate forever, that's
all.
