The knowledge
of advanced goldsmith technology arrived with the influence
of pre-Columbian civilizations and the arrival of the
Spaniards. During the period of cultural blooming (3 to
9 BC), the Atacameño People developed a refined
and complex craftsmanship, influenced by the Tiawanaku
culture.
The major craft virtues were found in the cups of repoussage,
which represent the feminine and masculine faces, used
for ceremonial ends.
