In the north of Santa
Cruz, in the Patagonia,the Cave of the Hands is an important
expression of ancient rock art. The cave´s walls
are plenty of hand shapes painted in positive and negative.
The oldest painting are more than 10,000 years old.
In the Center-South of this region of the Patagonia,
there are also many depictions of animals, such as guanacos
(Lama guanicoe), still commonly found in the region,
as well as hunting scenes.The drawings of guanacos realists
first and later increasingly deformed, lose dynamism
and shapeless figures appears. The people responsible
for the paintings may have been the ancestors of Tewelche
People, a historic hunter-gatherer communities of Patagonia.
In the beginnings of the
Christian era a engravings third style were elaborated
in the rocky walls with the display of animals and humans
footprints. These kind of labyrinth,could be related
with the spiritual beliefs of this Indigenous cultures.
