Traditional mapuche
ceremony in the Budi lake
Kamarrikun Mapuche-Lafkenche
The Budi Lake at 85 kms southwest of Temuco is
habitat of a colony of black-necked swans that are protected by
the Mapuche-Lafkenche communities in the area.
Each year, the mapuche community of Collileufu celebrate
the Kamarrikun which is a celebration to thank the harvest of the
season.
In their ruka "Lafken Leufu" ("house between sea
and lake) Mrs. Maria Nawel wear the ceremonial mapuche dress. This
is the first time they show a Kamarrikun in public.
A welcome in Mapudungun and Spanish, to begin the
activity with dances such as: choique-purrun and other dances of
gratitude that are accompanied by kultrun, pifilkas and trutrukas.
Later, we could see a traditional mapuche threshing
and taste typical mapuche food: salad of cochayuyo, millokin (small
balls of ground beans and peas), chapalele (sopaipillas cooked with
water), cooked meat of horse, sopaipillas, tortillas de rescoldo,
kneaded bread and cheese.
The activity continues with an exhibition of the
traditional game of palín and the awarkudzen (game with peas) which
is a game of chance.
The traditional ceremony ended with a delicious
chicken broth with locro.
