Traditional mapuche ceremony in the Budi lake
Kamarrikun Mapuche-Lafkenche

The Budi Lake at 85 kms southwest of Temuco is habitat of a colony of black-necked swans that are protected by the Mapuche-Lafkenche communities in the area.

Each year, the mapuche community of Collileufu celebrate the Kamarrikun which is a celebration to thank the harvest of the season.

In their ruka "Lafken Leufu" ("house between sea and lake) Mrs. Maria Nawel wear the ceremonial mapuche dress. This is the first time they show a Kamarrikun in public.

A welcome in Mapudungun and Spanish, to begin the activity with dances such as: choique-purrun and other dances of gratitude that are accompanied by kultrun, pifilkas and trutrukas.

Later, we could see a traditional mapuche threshing and taste typical mapuche food: salad of cochayuyo, millokin (small balls of ground beans and peas), chapalele (sopaipillas cooked with water), cooked meat of horse, sopaipillas, tortillas de rescoldo, kneaded bread and cheese.

The activity continues with an exhibition of the traditional game of palín and the awarkudzen (game with peas) which is a game of chance.

The traditional ceremony ended with a delicious chicken broth with locro.
